Our Story

When we began?
The church was started by Mrs Emily Waring on October the 16th in 1939. The meetings were held in the front room of her house on Greens Road. As the number of people attending increased to more than 30 adults and 70 children a new building was required. This was built for £3000 on the same site where the current building is situated. The new building was opened October 16th 1948. It was known as the Keresley Heath Mission hall however within 10 years this building was replaced with a new one which was again built by volunteers. The new building was completed and opened December 22nd 1958.

Why part of AoG?
We believe that all churches need spiritual covering and fellowship with other groups of like minded Christians. We see the Assemblies of God as mainly satisfying this need and hence we are one of their churches.

Assemblies of God is a classical Pentecostal fellowship of evangelical churches which place a distinct emphasis on the need for the Holy Spirit's empowerment in their worship, work and witness. This emphasis, expressed both in doctrine and practice, has resulted in a growth realising some 50 million adherents in more than 50 nations of the world.

The purpose of Assemblies of God is to give every man, woman and child the opportunity of understanding the gospel and to provide a church where they can grow in ministry for the glory of God.

The first conference of Assemblies of God was held in May 1924 at London when a Management Board was elected, the work of sending missionaries considered, the decision taken to publish a magazine and a Statement of Fundamental Truths drawn up.

Today there are well over 600 Assemblies of God churches in13 Regions throughout Great Britain and Ireland, with more than 100 churches in process of being planted in new areas, making a significant contribution to the evangelisation of the nation.

Other Christian organisations we are affiliated to:

In order for our church to be effective, we need fellowship with other Christian groups and organisations as well as the Assemblies of God. Some of these are as follows:
  • The Evangelical Alliance. The Evangelical Alliance is an organization committed to uniting all evangelical Churches and Christians to become part of a movement for change. This is a God-given initiative to re-invigorate Christian witness and make a significant impact on the moral and spiritual heart of our nation.
  • The Willow Creek Association UK. The Willow Creek Association UK & Ireland has been established since 1995 and links like minded action orientated churches with each other and with strategic vision, training and resources. The primary aim is to inspire, equip and encourage Christian leaders to build biblically functioning churches that reach increasing numbers of un-churched people. The association is a part of a worldwide ministry of the Willow Creek Community Church of Chicago USA, (one of the largest and fastest growing evangelical churches in the USA).
